Why “Bandurić House”?

It is interesting that I am starting to write these thoughts sitting by the pool in a village from which people emigrated due to water shortages, and is now a haven for people who value peace and quiet in the midst of untouched Herzegovinian nature, enriched with a touch of tradition.

Isn’t it fascinating how everything in life goes around in circles?

My name is Ana and I am the owner of the estate Bandurića Kuća. I inherited this place from my mother, who had inherited it from her father before that. At that time in Herzegovina it was not common for a daughter to inherit much, but her father insisted, always feeling that he had not given her enough. She accepted it only because it was the place of her birth, as well as many of her brothers, sisters and cousins. It should be noted that my father reluctantly accepted the offer from his father-in-law because he himself was from Imotski, another area where you didn’t want anything from your wife’s family.

I wonder if my grandfather had a vision of what this place would look like one day in the future? He must have, because he was a man ahead of his time. Even then he said that the main road would pass through the village. It seemed like wishful thinking, but look at us today! We can almost reach the toll booths of the Split – Međugorje highway. Suddenly, we are not a forgotten place, we are here, just around the corner from the main highway. And yet, we have preserved the peace and quiet, so desirable in this ever-changing world.

And why did we call the estate “Bandurića House”? It was the nickname of my grandfather, to whom we have given the respect he deserves with this gesture.
